Some
Like It Hot is by far one of my favourite films. It is an American Comedy. The fillm
was directed by Billy Wilder, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack
Lemon. The film is set in New York and Miami in 1929.It was filmed in black and White. It received countless awards such as an Academy Award ( Best Costume Dressing-Black and White). From my point of view, costumes are outstanding and they suppose one of the most striking features in the film. As a matter of fact, one of the first jewel-dresses (dresses having lots of jewels) was worn by Marilyn Monroe herself in one of the most popular and emblematic scenes. Another quirk of the film is its title; Some Like It Hot mentions a kind of jazz music played by the main characters.
This masterpiece tells the story of two musicians who are gamblers and owe money to a a great deal of people. One day, they accidentally witness the murder of a big fish of New York, no other than Toothpick, an important, yet dangerous New York gangster . As a result, the other gangsters won’t stop until the witnesses end up six feet under . Panic-stricken, the terrified musicians find their only way to survive: they are left with no choice but to dress up as women in an all-female band.Over the course of the film they live hilarious
moments while they are chased by the blood-thirsty gangsters.
What I really love about the film is the
first scene: Chicago, 1929, alcohol is forbidden in the age of Prohibition, gangsters have an illegal speakeasy but you will never guess where this pub actually is unless
you watch the film. This atmosphere masterfully connects the plot of the film and the historical background of the time, making the audience go back to the late-twenties. You know, desperate times, desperate measures.
I
would highly
recommend the film because it is hilariously funny from the beginning to
the end .If you want to have a good
time and a good laugh, this is definitely a must-watch film!
